Got a new iPad (9th) today. Did a manual setup. Put in my Apple ID for iCloud. Everything worked. Tried to add another Mail account for a second Apple ID I have. No luck. Gets stuck on Validating. Account is not added on iPad. Yet if I log into the second Apple ID at Appleid.com, my new iPad shows up under Devices. I've talked to 3 Apple Advisors and so far no solution or other reports of this issue. Anyone tried this?

I also tried to add a third Apple ID for a calendar I share with others and same outcome. Gets stuck on Validating and account is not added. Yet if I log into the third Apple ID at Appleid.com, my new iPad shows up under Devices.

I have been doing this for about 8 years and it has always worked.

Shawn

PS I added another 3rd party Mail and it works fine.

This exact thing is happening to me on a new iPad with iOS 15. I have all my other iOS devices set up this way, and curiously the 12.9" iPad Pro I have from back in the day, although already updated to iOS 15.0, will let me add the secondary accounts no problem. I've tried multiple different iCloud accounts and can't add any of them to the iPad, and they all add fine to the iPad Pro. None of them have 2FA enabled, although I briefly enabled it on one to see if that would let the iPad add it (no joy, so disabled it again). Have a case open with Apple support, but since it's "launch season" it might be a week or more.

If only Apple could have innovated a way to share contacts among family members sometime in the last fifteen or twenty years, maybe I wouldn't even have to do this.

Thank you for confirming this. I was on with Apple Support yesterday for over 3 hours with 3 different advisors and 2 different supervisors. They tried telling me this wasn't possible. It was shocking that an old fart like me knew more than they did about how to set this up.

Don't know if you've tried again, but I was able to add the secondary account yesterday afternoon; I assume some change on Apple's server side.

Thank you. I just tried and you are correct. Resolved from my perspective. I will tell the Apple CSR when they call back tonight.

Anyone else still seeing this? Husband and I can’t add our shared iCloud email account since we got new phones last Friday. Tried everything I can think of.

Nope. Super annoying
So you go Settings, Mail, Accounts, Add Account, iCloud, enter accountname@icloud.com and password. Does is just pause there or does it try to validate and fail? Have you called Support?

Have you tried signing out of iCloud, restarting phone And signing back in and trying again? Just asking. I know you said you tried everything.

Yep, you got it. It’ll say validating and then stop and act like I need to hit the button for it to validate again. I even set up the phone as new again and same issue. Next step I figured was to either wait for a .1 or 0.1 release and if all else fails, contact support.
I really do appreciate the help tho. I’m open to anything at this point haha

Same thing happens to me. Except it begins after selecting the option to send me a text for the 2FA code.
In the beginning it tries to send the 2FA code to my other devices, and goes to the « Enter the code received on your devices » page.
But as the only other device that was on my second account was my old iPhone that I traded in at the Apple Store, I have no other option but to receive a text message.

*solution*

The issue is caused by new “terms and conditions” for iCloud users to agree to. It seems that iOS 15 can’t show this screen and gets stuck.
So if you want to add a second (or third) iCloud (or Me or Mac) email account to iOS 15, you need to sign out of your main iCloud account and then sign into your secondary iCloud account, agree the terms and conditions. Sign out of the secondary account and then sign back into your main icloud account. And then you will be able to add the secondary iCloud account without any issues.
Hopefully this will be fixed in a early iOS 15 update.
This worked for me with my 5 iCloud email accounts (I had to sign into each one individually to agree the terms and conditions before I could put my main account back).
