Multiple Calendar unwanted alerts by email for same event

When I set an alert sent by email in Calendar I always receive multiple emails for that same event. This has been happening for years on my MacBook Pro. I thought there was something wrong with the computer. It was so annoying, I stopped using Calendar.

I bought a new MacBook Pro 14” and gave Calendar a new try but Calendar continues to send multiple alerts by email for the same event. I use Calendar only on my computer. It doesn’t sync anywhere else.

Does anybody have a solution?

I didn't even know calendar could alert via email. Are you sure you are using the Apple Calendar app?

Cool! Did you remove email as an alert and try that (with dummy calendar items). I'm going to play with some scenarios. Do you have more than one alert on events? I wonder if there is a bug in Monterey where if you have more than one alert and only one has email, the rest turn to email.

Not sure what you mean here. I only set one alert by email per event. Nothing to do with Monterey. I have had this issue for years.

I gave up trying to get the Calendar app to do custom alerts years ago…and haven't found a solution better than having Google host my calendars and setting up reliable default and custom alerts at the Google Calendar web portal.

It seems like alert by email is not well known or used. It looks like this issue is a bug in Calendar. Could someone who uses it confirm that she/he doesn't receive multiple emails per single event?

Are you saying the calendar in question IS a Google hosted one? If so, are email alerts set up at the web portal?

They happen at random too. Some alerts are sent multiple times, some once or twice. No rhyme or reason. Bad code I suspect. It's not like Apple is in the software business and prolly don't have enough $ (sic) to give a crap.

It seems to me that email notifications in Calendar is one of those old features that for some reason Apple hasn't cared about at all. They don't care to fix it in macOS nor do they bother eliminating it. It they'd just add them at the iCloud Calendar web portal they could take it out of macOS. Google, Outlook.com, Exchange and who knows what else have this feature at the web portal.

It can't work unless the Mac is running, anyway!

The issue is with macOS Calendar, not with a Google calendar.

stumbled on a fix.
My OSX cal is sync'd with goog cal.
I turned off the alerts from OSX Cal and all is well.
Right click on a Cal in the upper left corner of the OSX Cal app.
Get info.
Check box, ignore alerts.

Ah, I don't use google calendar so this hasn't been an issue. I've started using the email notification (in addition to regular notifications) since you guys told me about this option. Thanks guys!
