I currently have a Mixed network of both PC and iOS, and it has served me well. However my server is due for a upgrade/replacement and I have been pricing a new server. I've been looking at buying a HP, Dell, etc, etc vs building my own server with off the shelf parts and I have recent been thinking of getting a New 2019 Mac Pro when it gets released. I guess the one question I have about the Mac Pro is will it, can it support multiple HD's? I have 6 internal HD's for a total of 60TB a 3 10TB USB 3.0 HD's. I know it can support the external, but I am not 100% sure if it has the drive bays.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does your server do anything more than file sharing? Which file sharing protocols and other applications?

What hardware/OS is the current server?

The 2019 Mac Pro seems to be many times more expensive than necessary for a low end file server.

Also consider a file-sharing appliance like QNAP - much cheaper and more trouble-free than a full OS/server setup.

Also, consider the migration issues - it's unlikely that your existing disks can be moved into a new box unless it is *very* close to your current server.

Yes, it will be doing a good amount of transcoding. My daughter has a YouTube channel and it needs to transcode from R3D to something that will work with YouTube

i9 7980XE, 32GB DDR4, GTX 1080Ti (helps with transcoding). And a year ago Added a PCIe Red Rocket X for additional transcoding. Those are the basic specs. While it does work well, I am not able to be there all the time because of work, I want something simple, easy and something that doesn't require having a lot of technical knowledge that Windows or Linux would require.

Current OS and version?

And BTW - Windows is pretty stable....

Because there is internal drive bays, I am planning to buy a Mac Pro5, 1 to build the server system.

you may just want to look at a new software solution or read the manual for what you use now.

im not sure on what your work flow is? but you can set up a lot of apps to watch folder and trans-code once new files are in folder and just add an automated move files from external media to folder and your done.

assume your shooting red, import from mag, edit?, export, upload, edit meta data, publish?

the import and export/upload stage can be automated

as your shooting on red and running a you tube channel it may be time to look at external editor to take up the work if you want to save time.
