The best thing about weathereye on the blackberry was that the icon changed to show the weather and current temperature. It doesn't seem to do this on the iPhone. Is this even possible, or does apple limit each app to one icon only and doesn't let that icon change?

Here's an app idea if someone wants to write it: Have a weather app that does nothing but display the current temperature (or the high or the low) using a badge on the icon. Although I guess this would be pretty useless, since it couldnt' automatically update.

well the calendar icon changes so its obviously possible but you'd probably have to jailbreak and use winterboard to get automatically changing weather badge icons.

as for your idea, dont even know why you bother to mention it and then claim its useless right after.

The app icon cannot be updated. The icon is bundled with the app when it is signed. If you change the icon it won't match the signature, so it won't work. Plus Apple wouldn't approve an app that did that.

And for the badging app, that's pretty worthless until Apple enables the Push services.

As the iPhone / iPod Touch SDK evolves, Apple will continue to add in additional functionality. For example, Apple will be adding in aux-in audio support to the SDK in the 2.2 update. This will allow people to use their iPhone as a professional digital audio storage device. If you believe Apple should add in new SDK features, then you should email them about it. That's the only way we will ever get it. It isn't a limitation as much as it is not supported yet by the SDK. Plus, for the icon to change it would have to be running in the background, so perhaps this will be added in with the Push Notification SDK update, since before that is added, it makes no sense to allow you to change the icon with no way to automatically do it. Although, I'll admit, I would love a way to change some app icons. They are just ugly!
