I'm new to the subject idea, but how would I hook up a 2nd monitor to my iMac? I've screened the forums but aside from lots of proud users of this idea, I have been unable to find out the 'how-to'. Would appreciate some guidance and location of the information.

If it is any modern iMac, less than two years old, you just buy any LCD monitor with DVI cable and up to 1920 x 1080 pixels (typical 24 inch monitor, any brand will work), and buy the MiniDVI - to - DVI adapter from Apple for $19. Plug the MiniDVI to DVI adapter into the iMac, and the DVI cable into the adapter. In System Preferences/Displays you set up whether the monitor is to the left or to the right of the iMac, and on which monitor the menu bar appears.

gnasher729 - that seems pretty easy - I bought my iMac about 3 weeks ago (still trying to figure out all the things it does) after being a PC user for 20+ years. The additional monitor is a 17" Dell LCD, a leftover from my PC, that has two monitor plugs - one is the old pin-type and the other I think is the DVI, but will review.

So, if I understand this, all I need is a cable (not sure what a mini-DVI to DVI Adapter is, but will visit the store) and tell the iMac how to set the 2nd unit up - right?

Thanks for the reply folks - will try it this week.
