1. 18min 4K ProRes HDR fails to Air Drop in macOS.
2. Plug phone in to Windows, Windows sees all files on phone EXCEPT ProRes files. (???)
3. Back on macOS. FCPx refuses to import any file it, either failed to import, or thinks it imported (when it didn't)
4. iCloud not possible as file is too large.

I'm down down to using one of those janky image converters on the phone to cut the bitrate in half in hopes this betters my odds for Air Drop. I can't believe what a hassle this is. Have people been dealing with this since iPhone14? Why does FCPx think it's imported something when it hasn't? Then refuses to ever let the file back in. The only work around is to drop the file manually on the timeline to get it in there. (hence me having to go through all this in the first place) But then it's always a reference. So be sure where you droped it from, it's still there when it needs it. Consolidate doesn't work as it thinks it has the file. GAAHHH!!!! Also, why does it fail on import with large ProRes? Why does Air Drop?

HASSLE POLICE

If you want help,

1. some details, please? macOS version? What exactly happens (“fails” is a bit vague, isn’t?)
2. You need to install Apple’s iCloud app on your Windows machine (btw. which version?), sign in with your Apple ID, then the required codecs will be installed on your machine. If you want to work with any of the iPhone's RAW photo formats, you should get and install Microsoft’s RAW extension. While you’re at it, you might like to install Microsoft’s HEIF/HEIC photo and video extensions on Windows, maybe?
3. Again, some more info? version? error messages? et cetera.
4. that’s related to the free icloud tier of 5Gb? And that’s the file you want to airdrop?

if you just wanted to vent, please ignore the above.

For Windows, I have all the above requests long active. iCloud, Codecs, etc. Regardless, any MOV that are ProRes do not show. I don’t mean “black video” I mean, the actual files don’t show up in Explorer. Only regular photos and video are visible.

macOS Sonoma, latest. Latest FCPx. I have the 200gb iCloud tier. There is no error message. You import into FCPx, it flashes the window. Nothing happens. This doesn’t happen always of course. Seems to happen more frequently with WAV files. Whether video or audio, when it does, you are no longer able to ever get that file imported using the import tool. Even dragging it in to the Event window does nothing. You are allowed to drag it directly to the time line and it will show. However, only there. Never in the footage area. As I said forcing you to maintain that file from where ever you imported. (consolidate ignores it)

The only error I’ve ever gotten in FCPx for a failed import is simply, “failed to import (file)” However that is rare. Mostly it just flashes the import window.

My Mac: 2021 16” base MBP. FCPx library is on attached TB m.2 storage drive. But before that it used to be on the local drive. I experienced these issues with both setups.

Appreciated your time and response. Thank you. Hope this additional info helps.
