I have encountered a problem when trying to replace the 1066 RAM from my MacPro with new 1333 modules.

I bought three SAMSUNG 16 gig modules (Samsung m393b2g70bh0-yh9 Samsung 16gb 2rx4 pc3l-10600r-09-11-E2-P2) to upgrade from the current CSX 8GB DDR3 1066MHz AP_ECC1066D3_8G.

Two out of the three modules failed with a red light on the board next to the slot. The board only recognized one. I made several attempts to swap them between slots, but without result. Only one works.

I requested a replacement for the faulty modules. Got 2 new ones (same model), and only one of them worked.

Tired of tests, I mounted the two 16gigas 1333 modules that worked and have left the third slot empty.
I'm not sure about what to do now, as I think that mixing another module of a different brand may not work, is this correct?

Five SAMSUNG modules and only two of them worked. This seems odd. Any idea what could be happening?

My machine is a MacPro 4.1 upgraded, with your help, to 5.1.
The original single processor, Nehalem 2.93, was upgraded to an Intel Xeon X5690 6 CORE 3.46Ghz, working without issues.
Boot ROM version: 144.0.0.0
SMC (system) version: 1.39f5
SMC version (processor tray): 1.39f5

The original memory was 32 (4x8) gigs at 1066.
I discovered that by dismantling the slot 4, and leaving the first three slots with 24 gigs was achieving better performance.
I left it like that for a while until I decided to try the upgrade to 1333. I use GeekBench 5 for testing.

The new memory modules have been bought from a well known online RAM European store. To be honest I am embarrassed to ask them for another replacement. Besides the time I waste in testing and having the machine stopped meanwhile.

Any advice?

Thank you.

Not being happy with the performance of only 2 channels, I decided to order 3 modules from the OWC brand again, which I think offer more guarantees of good operation. I hope to get lucky.

It works now, perfect.
Buy cheap buy twice. In Spain we say..."Lo barato resulta caro"
I should have gone directly with OWC...
