I had considered purchasing an iPad, but I honestly cannot think of anything that I could do with it that I couldn't do with an iPhone (I currently have an original 3G) if it had a faster CPU/GPU and (finally) a higher resolution screen. So, I was quite excited by the recent rumor concerning the display selected for the iPhone 2010. For those who missed this one, the display is supposedly a 960*640 part. This would be fantastic, as it would offer most of the additional real estate of the iPad, but would still be phone-sized (hence portable).
In order to introduce a new display resolution, the iPhone OS will have to be transformed into something that is resolution independent. Obviously, OS 3.2 on the iPad is proof that this transition has already started. So what about OS 4.0? Are multiple resolutions--including the very promising 960*640--supported?
