is it just me or when this new iOS4 comes out will there not be an abundance of "multitasking ready" apps.. i have only had a few apps that have been "multitasking updated"

eh?:apple:

Yeah, no kidding.

Everyone keeps asking when iOS 4 will be released, but it isn't much until all your apps are updated with the multi-tasking API's.

On the other hand, it will be interesting to compare how apps that are iOS 4 ready compare to those that aren't, particularly with fast app switching. I'd really like to know why it requires an API and what it does.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

If a dev made the app 3.x compatible, it was already approved. If an update REQUIRES 4.0 it hasn't been approved yet. They'll all show up in the store starting later today. It happened with 3.0 last year too.

Thanks.

I do sort-of remember about 15 updates all at once last year when 3.0 came out

Apple has started letting 4.0 updates through the app store but I would assume most apps are waiting for official release

That link is terrible. I think the guy is pretty uninformed about what multi-tasking is.

For example. He claims Twitteriffic is going to be multitaskable. Yea... I suppose. But it isn't going to help him any since Twitteriffic can't poll for updates in the background. So at best it's going to have fast app switching and task completion (so tweets can be sent if you exit the app and recently posted one that hasn't yet completed).

Also, the Pandora link is pointing to 3.0.3 which is not iOS 4 multi-tasking enabled.

Just full of fail. I really would not look at this list as anything informative. It'll just confuse more people than it helps.

I have downloaded a few apps that are iOS 4 multitask enabled.

ESPN ScoreCenter
Dropbox
Fandango
Convertbot
LinkedIn
NY Times

TuneIn Radio

Saw an update for TuneIn Radio so that's another one to add to the list.
Incidentally, thanks for this. I've been using Wunder Radio for a long time and didn't even know about TuneIn Radio...which is almost 1/4th of the price and has more features. Going to try it out.

(Wunder Radio, incidentally, hasn't updated for iOS 4 yet.)

Will non-updated apps run in 4.0 and just not multi-task. Does anyone know how that works?

My question is this. Without going to itunes to check, how does one know if the app in question is 4.0 compatible / multitasking enabled?

I can't believe Pandora hasn't been sitting in the store for weeks now updated. Weird.

I hope it's not another Meebo situation hehe.
