[Déjà vu]They are not open unless there is a arrow or play icon ion the task bar.[/Déjà vu] They are just suspended and don't use recourses. Read the linked thread.

My iPhone is super responsive even with my 100 apps in the multitasking bar. Yet I have the same battery life.
