So, we have the Multitouch "Magic Mouse" from Apple and it works great. We have Multitouch on the display of iDevices. So I often thougt, when I hold the iPhone in my hands: it would be great to navigate through an webpage with Multitouch on the back of the iPhone.

Try it out. Hold your iPhone and one hand and try to virtual scroll with your forefinger through an webpage.

What do you think about that feature?

I don't think this could ever work. It would make simply holding the phone complicated..having to be sure to hold it in such a way to not accidentally perform some unintentional touch command.

Also, many users have cases on their phones, preventing them from even making direct contact with the back of the phone.

Neat in theory, but in no way practical or plausible..

Actually, I think they were trying something with a multitouch back, which could also be the reason why they need to switch their casing and make it waterproof. If the phone is going to require use from the back side, you can't have a case on it. Although I'm not entirely sure that Apple will implement it into their iPhone, they were working on a steering wheel that could use touch commands I believe. It's an interesting concept. We just don't know how to put it to good use without Apple doing that for us.

Yeh, it's great in theory, and it's been tried out on other mobile prototypes, but it just doesn't feel natural to me.

If the phone is going to require use from the back side, you can't have a case on it.

Which is why it probably won't happen, too many people crave to be able to customize their phone with cases - it could easily turn many people to another device.
