What is your preferred way to store your music and videos on hard disk.

For music, I have been using iTunes. All of my albums are now in iTunes using Apple Lossless. Of course, if there were errors in the ripping, I will have to live with it. I made that decision a long time ago picking between WAV (probably most compatible but lacks tags and other metadata), FLAC (not available on iPhone), etc., and also decided against making a raw copy of the CD.

Right now, I have it setup so that the lossless files get sync'ed to the iPhone. I'm concerned about space, so I want a sampled version to go to the iPhone. Is there an easy way to do that without having to store multiple versions of the same song (lossless and sampled) on my hard disk?

Also, how do you store your videos? I have a few DVDs and so far those are all just sitting on my shelf. It sounds like there may be copy protection issues which makes it less straightforward than ripping songs into iTunes.

Thanks.

Yes
Vids get a separate HD and HD backup of their own. They only get moved to iTunes, or Nexus/Nook etc., for watching, and are deleted thereafter.
Otherwise they just end up eating all the space on your main drive.

Thanks. What do you use to convert the movies for storing on hard disk?
