Music app: Album Release Date

I have all my albums tagged with their release date in iTunes, as you can see from the screenshot.

In iOS, when you go into the album it says the full release date, for example the Middle Class Rut album, whereas others it only says the year, like the Menzingers.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to wether it will display the full date or just the year. I've tagged both of these myself using the same app.

Anyone know why? I know this isn't a big deal, but I'd like it to always display the full date

i found that only albums that i bought from the itunes store displays the full release date, whereas albums that i imported myself only display the year (even though the full date is included in the meta tags).

I do not have a single album that shows anything but the year, purchased or not. Is it that big of a deal? Kind of useless information if you ask me.

bear in mind iTunes only has a field for the year of release and not the full release date.

Have you compared the tags in detail with something like AtomicParsley?

Even though you are using the same app it might not be doing the exact same thing every time.

EDIT: Have a look at your dates.

Works: 05/10/2010 -> Could be 05 October or May 10
Doesn't work: 20/02/2010 -> Could be 20 Feb or ???

Could due a poor locale implementation where if the US format date is invalid display only the year.

2012-03-02 (ie 2nd march 2012).

bear in mind iTunes only has a field for the year of release and not the full release date.

There are other programs like Subler or Max that can tag tracks with the full release date.

Have you compared the tags in detail with something like AtomicParsley?

Even though you are using the same app it might not be doing the exact same thing every time.

Yep, this is the format I use for all the tracks when tagging (iTunes shows it differently because of international preferences). It's a good shout though, I'll have a look when I get home!

Sorry for the necrobump, but this was the only relevant result on Google when I searched for iTunes release date (and copyright). So here's what I've learned from experience (using Mp3tag for Windows because it's the best tagging software in existence imo):

1) The "album info" you have circled in your pictures, (1) the release date and (2) copyright tag (which you are missing), is only loaded into iTunes the FIRST time a song with that Album is put in the library. meaning any updates you do to that tag, are not reflected when you sync to your iPod. You would need to delete the songs from your iTunes library, sync your iPod to remove the songs, then add them back on a 2nd sync.
2) The "release date" tag should be formatted as "2012-04-30T07:00:00Z" (will show in iTunes as 4/30/2012), but this alone will not make your iPod show the exact release date.
You need one more tag in your m4a file:
ITUNESMEDIATYPE, set to "Normal" (without quotes)

Hope this helps you in the right direction if you still care. I use Windows and don't have a clue what tagging software for Mac is comparable to Mp3tag for Windows.
