Music.app is not seeing iPhone

I just got a new Macbook Pro. It doesn't see my iPhone running iOS 13.5. The computer sees the phone when looking in System Information and I can access the photos in Image Capture so the issue seems to be just with the music app on the Macbook Pro. MacBook Pro running latest OS. Any advice?

On Catalina, the phone isn't in Music. Sync is now a system function, located in the Finder sidebar.

Don’t forget, you need to acknowledge on your phone to “trust this computer” (after you’ve plugged it into your MacBook of course) before it will show up in Finder.
