I was hoping Apple would really revamp this app, but...it is still clunky, slow, awkward, confusing and for the most part a real pain in the ass to inport songs and set up playlists easily and quickly. It is the very definition of kluge. I still haven't encountered a good replacement for it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Agree. I like listening to original movie scores but it’s buried in the Genre section of the app which is really difficult to get to. At least they could create a favorite genre that is accessible on the home screen.

I agree with you. I thought that the main advantage to have a standalone Music app instead of iTunes would be that it isn't so sluggish anymore (iTunes had a very poor performance when browsing Music). I was surprised to see that the new Music app is almost as sluggish as iTunes was.

Edit: Sorry, didn’t realize I was in the iOS section.

we're in the iOS forum??

Yup I’m done with it. I have a carefully-curated iTunes library with lots of lossless remasters. Almost every single time I try to copy them to my iPhone the ID3 data gets screwed up in the process and each song is becomes its own “unknown album.” None of the suggestions I’ve found by searching have helped.

On top of that, the shuffle algorithm blows chunks. I hear the same handful of songs CONSTANTLY. Never had any of these problems with my old click wheel iPods.

So I bought an iPod Mini off eBay this week for $25 and I’m waiting on delivery of a new battery and a 256GB flash storage upgrade. If the lack of gapless playback bothers me too much, my old iPod Classic will get the same treatment in 400GB flavor.

I feel like the focus on Apple Music has left the manual syncing side of it in ruins.

Personally I think the new Music App in iOS 13 is really good looking app and very simple to use, specially in dark mode. The problem that I have is the shuffle mode, I keep hearing the same songs, maybe 20 in a collection of 3000.

For that reason I've been looking for a replacement. What I found was Flacbox, it does not require the the Music App and it plays what ever you through at it. It's free with ads and $5.00 to remove them.

The other app that I like is Marvis, it requires the Music App to load the songs and has a great design and lot of features, in shuffle mode is great. It costs $5.00.

I use foobar2000, it's free and a simple player that plays my MP3s, that's all I need. I don't want to import nothin' or create libraries, just lemme play my freakin' songs in random order and I'm done!

Another vote for Marvis Pro. Costs a few bucks and depends on the stock music app for some functionality like downloads, but a far superior UI.
