Every evening I go cycling with Music.app. I’ve noticed since upgrading to iOS 14 that my battery is taken a huge hit.

I’m aware that when you install a new OS that you must reindex search, perform other background tasks, yada yada. But it’s been almost two weeks since I installed iOS 14. It’s not that. Additionally, my battery health is the same % as what it was on iOS 13.

The music I have is all local, therefore Music.app doesn’t need to drain network resources streaming the music, rather it can just grab the local copy off the flash storage.

Anyone else having this problem with Music.app? Thanks.

I often listen to internet radio through the Music app and it causes serious and regular battery problems. Couple times a week I notice (too late) my battery is almost dead even though I hadn’t been using it. Settings shows Music background activity as the main factor in battery drain. Seems like it gets stuck on a process in the background when I’m not even listening.

Maybe stop using Apple Music could help. I don’t use it and my music app never drains battery like crazy.

I'm having the same issue. I have Background App Refresh turned off for Music, I've played no Music on my phone today, and I'm down at 50% at 4pm with the largest battery drain shown as Music: Background Activity as 66%. I'm on iOS 14.4 but was seeing the same thing on 14.3.

Turn off the sharing features in the music app settings
“Use listening history” I think it’s called

Ok so you need to give more information. One thing your battery at the highlighted point was for one hour with other tasks. And your battery was already drained down to 25% already. You used it for 10 mins and it drained to about 5. But looking at your usage through the rest of the day you do a heavy amount of usage and some very short bursts of charging. Not good for the battery. What phone is is it? How old? And last what is you battery health? Show us you battery health and ten day usage average screen.

Along with during-the-day usage, I also run the music app all through the night (8 hrs) listening to music or a book, all stored on the phone. No issues.
I’d suspect some other app(s) running in the background to be the culprits.

Hi Folks. It’s been months since the original post. At that time, I tried debugging Music.app by attaching a debugger to the running process, but didn't get very far with lldb, so I had no idea to debug this further and I concluded the app to be fundamentally broken for my use cases and standards.

I’ve moved my offline library to Plexamp and everything ‘just works’, removed Music.app + iTunes, so will be leaving it at that.
