Dear Forum,

I wanted to install some scripts into the Music app. I realised that the place, where I save my music is a mess and might be a duplicate. I couldn't find the folder where to install the scripts either. Please kindly advise the correct path and where do I have to shift the library to and what can I delete?

All of my Music, Films etc. seem to be here (sorry German) holding 893 GB: Macintosh HD/Benutzer/my name/Musik/iTunes/iTunes Media

The actual new Music folder created I guess by Catalina, has (like the Photo library) a Music Library Folder with 550 MB: Macintosh HD/Benutzer/my name/Musik/Music

Can you please advise me how to merge or just to move those folders? I don't want to loose anything and I would like to install those scripts finally. Many many thanks.

Scripts are in ~/Library/Music/Scripts. The ~/Library folder is hidden. You can either use the Finder's Go menu item or select your home folder and use Options>View to make it permanently visible.

To change the Music library folder location you go to Music>Preferences>Files and set the new location. It should ask you to let Music move the files. If it did not do that correctly, you can use the File>Library>Organize Library... options to consolidate.

Note that the latter did not work correctly for me when moving the library files from one external disk to a second. I ended up setting everything the way I wanted with iTunes, then booted to Catalina, open Music with the Option key depressed and selected the iTunes ITL file to import the settings.

Once you have consolidated into one location, you should be able to delete the files in others. But I would check to make sure that the files truly are where you expect them before deleting the old ones.

l duplicate of my library, which is in excess of 3TB. I now have the backup, one version for iTunes and another for Music. Can't be too careful.

Thanks a lot for taking the time. I was able to shift the music into the new Music folder. The scripts still don‘t appear in the app. I will try again today. Thanks again.

I just checked and mine show up. The little Script menu item is right there.
Note that Mose iTunes scripts have to be redone a little to work.

Hi Haralds, please bear with me one more time.I just realised, that the albums showing up in Music are just the ones in the cloud. The app is not recognizing my local library.

I tried to move again, pointing the new folder out to the system, then next I used the option key to establish a complete new library and then dragging the (old) music folder into media. Unfortunately nothing happens. Even when I switch off the cloud library. Can you kindly help one more time? Many thanks!!
