I currently switched to eqMac from Boom 3d, but still not satisfied enough with performance. I think, no matter what the app, a good set of loudspeakers is essential. Am I right? Could you advise on both? I’d appreciate it.

Way too little info, but…
So, were you thinking you'd get software to make the internal speaker sound good? It will never happen. Even if you haven't told us what mac you're on. Yes, you need speakers. And you should have a room that doesn't resonate like crazy. If you have that, you would also notice an improved performance if you added a good DAC.
What's your budget.
What would you be using it for? What are you hoping to get from it?

Thanks, Ben J. It’s a Studio M1 Max. I just like listening to music while I work on Mac. And, yes, I needed some sort of confirmation that software alone won’t do. I used to have and vastly enjoy a 2.1 set; apparently, I should get a similar set. The house has a decent hi-fi, but I’d like something more personal. Thanks again.

The really easy, cheapest way, if the old hi-fi is in the room; get a mini-jack (3.5mm) to rca cable that's long enough to connect the Studio analog audio output to the tape-input on your amp/reciever.

Or get a set of powered (active) speakers with built-in DAC and USB connection. Search for 'powered usb speakers'. They come in all sizes and at all prices. Maybe find a shop that will let you listen to some, and get ones that you like.

Good luck.

Just so you know, the internal speakers are muted when something is plugged into the mini-jack port, and all audio including system alerts will be routed there. You might not want that. With powered speakers or a DA/AD converter connnected to a usb port, you have independent control of what audio goes where.

There are also sound-pods, and -planks and whatever, with mics and mood-colors and stuff, that are usb connected, but someone else would have to advise you on that.

Get a set of external POWERED speakers.
You don't have to spend a lot.

The cheapest pair will sound far better than the Studio's internal speaker.
A world of difference.

Or... use headphones. Again, even a cheap pair will sound much better.

I wonder if I could use the Altec Lansing speakers and sub that came with my 1996 Dell.

Edit: Finally got around to hooking them up to my Studio, and they sound fantastic. Richer and louder than the built-in speakers in the Studio and the Samsung M8 display. The volume pot is scratchy, but that's to be expected given the age. If it doesn't work itself out, I'll try some contact cleaner spray.
