I haven't used my Music app on my iPhone XS in a while but went to use it yesterday for the first time in months.

I noticed that all my Albums (my own CDs) which I had uploaded to iTunes back in the day, all had a download from the cloud icon showing but when I tried to download them, I got a pop up stating that my iTunes Match Subscription had expired in January 2019 (which it did).

I didn't know (or perhaps I've forgotten) that by NOT renewing my subscription to iTunes Match, I would also lose ALL my own music which was uploaded to iTunes and then transferred to my iPhone when I used to use iTunes to sync..?!!

Is there now no way of getting my music back onto my iPhone without a new subscription to iTunes Match?

...appreciate the responses above - very helpful.

Just a final question - if I was to re-subscribe to iTunes Match (is it even available any more?!) would my music re-appear?

Does Apple Music do the same thing (thats a better price I think)?

You may have to re-match/upload since Apple deletes libraries for expired subscriptions after a while.

Yes. Apple Music makes sense if you want to listen to music that is not already in your library. Otherwise Match is of course much less expensive.
