The evidence is attached. I have 23.79GB of music. My iPhone has a spare 27.2GB of space. However, when I attempt to load my music onto my iPhone, iTunes declares that it requires 35.55GB of space.

This is with the syncing of everything other than music disabled, and "Include music videos" and "Include voice memos" unticked.

So what's going on?

Sorry. Evidence attached here.

I think it needs the additional space for your metadata library since unlike iPods of yore, the iPhone with 3.0 is now more like mobile iTunes since it does things like live updating of playlists etc.
