so I use Apple Music and I noticed that all my music and phots are still taking up space on my iPhone (63gb in music). Is this music that for some reason couldn’t be uploaded to the cloud for some reason?

You can remove all the downloads manually from settings/Music. But then you will be only streaming over your data plan. I have three playlists downloaded for when I drive to work so not to use all my data.
Also under settings/Photos there is an option to Optimize iPhone storage. This will upload your iPhone photos to iCloud Photos Library and only keep lower quality on the device for viewing.

Thanks. I now understand the music part. However the photo part still confuses me. I download all my photos to the close. But, it still shows ~4GB of storage used on my iPhone (total photo file is 80GB) when i click on the photos on the storage it say "documents and data".

The app and the smaller versions of the photos still take up room. My amount in settings shows 16.5GB used just by Photos - but my library is over 85,000 photos and videos.

I posted under iOS 13 as I’m having terrible issues as all my music is in the cloud including my ripped CDs and I cannot get my new phone to download my music locally to my phone. Everything just has a red cloud against it. If I click download on an album it only downloads selective songs and the rest just end up with a spinning circle. I’ve escalated the problem to Apple who remote accessed my phone to see what was going on and they are stumped and have escalated the problem to engineering
