hi! i'm using music (formerly itunes) but not apple music (man, apple have made it really genuinely hard to search for help with the application) and have a regularly organised library, but on an external hard drive. this issue only showed up when i transferred my music collection from an old mac mini to a new one.

files will add okay, but when i update the ID3 information, a bunch of songs will usually "disappear" (get the little ! next to them). they haven't moved, they're still in the same position on the hard drive, but it's super annoying manually relocating them. i think something's going wrong with the music app failing to rename the file in its records or something.

does anyone have any ideas of how i might fix this? it's not the worst thing in the world, but as i'm gradually updating my collection to lossless, i'm adding files pretty frequently and it's getting to be pretty annoying!

How are you updating the ID3 information?

If you are using a 3rd party app and end up renaming the file then the Music app will not pick it up. You have to re-import it.
