I plugged my ipod headset into my iphone and when i listen to music, it will only come out of the iphone speaker at the bottom and nothing is coming out of the headset. I don't find any setting that would allow me to change that. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks...I had wrongly thought that only headphones that don't fit the iphone jack don't work and since my ipod headset "fits" i thought it could work. My husband was able to get his ipod nano headset to work on his iphone. very strange!

I just dug up the headphone that came with my video ipod (I've been using the headphone from my older generation ipod which I lost before purchasing the video ipod) and the headphone that came with my video ipod work with the iphone.

Same experience as cleung here. I use headsets that came with my old iPods all the time with my iPhone. Music plays through the headset, not the iPhone's speaker.

As long as the headset plugs in OK, it should work. Like treehorn mentioned, some headsets won't physically fit into the iPhone headphone jack without an adapter.

You might try resetting your iPhone by holding down the home and power buttons until the screen goes black (don't let go when you see the "Slide to Turn Off" screen pop up).
