Music on my iMac

Need some help with music on my Imac.

I got all my music on my WD External HDD, I copied all the music files to the music directory, and they not showing up.

In preferences, it shows the location but the music files are still not showing up.

Am I missing something?

What version of the OS?
Are you using iTunes?

When you speak of "music directory", what folder do you mean?
Do you mean the "Music" folder that's inside of your home folder?

If you navigate into that folder, can you see the files in question?
What happens if you double-click on one or two of them?

In the music app, formerly known as iTunes, have you added these to the library? Drag and drop of the folder into music app might do the trick already.

I sorted the problem in the end with imazing, plugged phone in, and exported it to iTunes directly.
