Every year I'm blown away by the power and stylishness of the latest iPad Pros. They are amazing beasts. However then I come to the realization that the apps I'd like to use are far substandard to what I can have on a PC or Mac. And yes this is of course subjective based on use and need. As a musician my focus would be on music production apps which are poor and convoluted at best.

As for other uses (email, note taking, ect) I can't justify spending close to a grand for what I can get from a relatively cheaper tablet .

So my question is do others feel the same about the apps they're using, or is this just isolated to music production ? And why is this ?

I'll just add that all/most other apps - video editing, art/drawing, text, photo editing, ect - appear to be right up there with their PC/Mac counterparts.

With ARM Mac and a possibly unified AppleOS platform, I believe Apple is working on bringing professional musical production apps to iPad in the future. As of now, iPad is going to be a niche productivity machine and an amazing media consumption device.

Are you suggesting that they'll port Logic Pro X to iPadOS?

I use Cubasis 3 (50€) to record music. I have attached a Yamaha mixer to the iPad via a USB-C to USB-B cable and it works seamlessly for recording and reproducing music.

I haven’t used the program to depths - it is supplied with a plethora of soundfonts which I don’t need (and a lot more can be bought as in-app purchases)

The program interface is very usable on a 13” iPad pro but there are a lot of videos on Youtube that show the program can be used even on an iPhone. In my opinion, Cubasis is a good reason to get the biggest iPad.
