Music resuming after incomming call

Hi,

When using the iPod to play music on my iPhone with non-apple headphones (i.e. no microphone), I have to remove the headphones when receiving an incoming call. The music fades out and the call is active, after the call has finished the music automatically resumes but obviously with no headphones connected it plays through the speaker..... very annoying in the office

Is there a way to stop the iPod resuming after an incoming call?

I'm afraid there isn't a solution. I was complaining about this behaviour a few weeks ago to Apple, with no response. I also started a thread on MR, but I had the feeling most of the people here don't understand why such a behaviour could be annoying.

It shouldn't be too hard to implement behaviour-settings in the menu.

This certainly hadn't occured to me... it's a good example of when Apple's strategy of 'have as few menu options as possible' falls down.

The music doesn't resume because it wasn't stopped by a phone call. The music stops automatically when you remove the headphone jack - a feature which I like - which is why it needs to be restarted manually once you plug your headphones back in.

The iPhone and its software is designed to work best with the included earbuds which let you take calls without unplugging the headphones. You might as well complain that Apple has put the buttons on the side in the wrong place because they don't match up with the openings in the case you prefer to use.

When you receive a call whilst listening to music the music fades out and the call becomes active, at this point (using non-apple earbuds) you have to disconnect the earbuds in order for the inbuilt iPhone microphone and speaker to function (i.e. to communicate with the caller). When either you finished the call or the line is dropped the music which was previously playing is resumed automatically, but as stated as the earbuds are not connected the sound is played via the iPhone loudspeaker. If you remove the earbuds whilst listening to music in the iPod mode the music is paused but because when you recive a call the active application is the telephone software the removal of the earbuds does not have the same effect.

I agree that the phone is designed to work with the Apple earbuds, but I find them to have poor audio quality and instead use a 3rd party earbud.

Thanks for clarifying your problem, but it still boils down to the fact that you use 3rd party earbuds. With nothing connected to the headphone jack, the iPhone plays through its speaker.

What you need is (a) better quality Apple earbuds; or (b) 3rd party earbuds with an inline mic. Personally, I can't tell the difference between Apple's earbuds and any other, and I love the functionality of the inline mic.

The beauty of Apple is the tight integration of its hardware and software. If you try to make it work all possible ways with all possible things, you get Windows, and all the bulk, turgidity and fragility that goes with it.

I could not agree with you more, although I'm not sure you can use "work all possible ways with all possible things" in the same sentence as "Windows"

You should try some Bose earbuds, they will blow your mind.

Maybe there should be an option that will start the music playing again if the headphones are plugged back in (after being stopped by removing the headphones).

I have this exact problem, and was just about to post a thread about it. My solution at the moment is to have my headphone jack in my other hand and be very quick about it.

If there's a way to disable this though, it'd be just grand.
