I have a massive local library that was originally built with iTunes and then I done the onetime upgrade when Catalina came out and it all transferred over to the new music app with just a few errors. Now I have a new MacBook Pro and I can’t figure out how to transfer that local library from music on Catalina from my old MacBook. I’ve condensed the library etc but the .xml file is greyed out and I can’t select it to use the data for the existing library. I’ve done this numerous times before with iTunes but just can’t get it work from one old Catalina to a new Catalina laptop

Have you tried this?

Copy the "Music Library.musiclibrary" file to the new Macbook music folder with all the media files.

Then hold the option key while opening music to "Choose Library" select the tranfered library and it should open and with all the playlists, playcounts, artwork(hopefully) etc.

I’ve got it all on an SD card as my
Old Mac and new don’t have enough capacity. The file you are referring to seems to be greyed out though

Where do I find the music library file? X
