For quite a few months now, I've been having an odd and vexing issue with iTunes: within the iTunes app on my iMac, I cannot get any video file whose "media kind" is labeled "music video" to play properly. In a few cases, the sound plays but there is no video; in most cases, nothing plays at all and iTunes skips to the next file in the playlist that is not a music video, if there is one. (That is, it will skip over any number of music videos to play an mp3, or a video file that is labeled as a "TV show," "movie," etc.) The files in question are mostly mp4 files, though some are QuickTime movies and a few are m4v files purchased from the iTunes Store. All will play fine in QuickTime, and all will play in iTunes if I change the "media kind" to "TV show," "movie," or "home video." Copies of the same files play just fine within iTunes on my MacBook Pro, using the same version of iTunes and the same MacOS.

My iMac is a late 2013 model and is currently running OS 10.13.3 and iTunes 12.7.3.46, but this problem has persisted through several upgrades of both the OS and iTunes. I have already tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes, but that did not correct the problem. I'd be very grateful if someone could point me to a solution!

Thanks in advance, and please let me know if there's a more appropriate venue for this query. I looked for a forum specifically about iTunes but didn't find anything.

Maybe just update the software on your laptop and check everything is up to date. Because that usually works or just type the music video up on youtube and convert it to mp4.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm afraid I don't really understand it! The problem is occurring on my iMac, not my laptop; the Mac OS and iTunes version I'm using appear to be the most recent available (at least for my machine); and the vast majority of the files involved are already mp4 files, as noted in my original post. I do appreciate your taking the time to try to help, though.

I'm sure it is, but can I use it to sync music and video to my iPad and iPods, including protected files from the iTunes store? And can I also use it to stream video from my iMac to my Apple TV? I'm guessing not; at this point, I feel sort of stuck with iTunes, and would just like some help getting it to work properly.
