For quite a few months now, I've been having an odd and vexing issue with iTunes: within the iTunes app on my iMac, I cannot get any video file whose "media kind" is labeled "music video" to play properly. In a few cases, the sound plays but there is no video; in most cases, nothing plays at all and iTunes skips to the next file in the playlist that is not a music video, if there is one. (That is, it will skip over any number of music videos to play an mp3, or a video file that is labeled as a "TV show," "movie," etc.) The files in question are mostly mp4 files, though some are QuickTime movies and a few are m4v files purchased from the iTunes Store. All will play fine in QuickTime, and all will play in iTunes if I change the "media kind" to "TV show," "movie," or "home video." Copies of the same files play just fine within iTunes on my MacBook Pro, using the same version of iTunes and the same MacOS.
My iMac is a late 2013 model and is currently running OS 10.13.3 and iTunes 12.7.3.46, but this problem has persisted through several upgrades of both the OS and iTunes. I have already tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes, but that did not correct the problem. I'd be very grateful if someone could point me to a solution!
Thanks in advance, and please let me know if there's a more appropriate venue for this query. I looked for a forum specifically about iTunes but didn't find anything.
