I am pretty much decided on a 3G version but I might not want to wait that long and fork for the Wifi instead (I hope it tethers).

Just wondering if there are fellow musicians in here them forums that can share their wishes and prospective uses if the iPad. :)

Well for starters:

Put it on a decent (sturdy!) music stand. You now have all your music you've ever owned in front of you.
You could have different parts of a music piece all together in one piece.

If you could mark the speed and start of a performance, it could easily "turn the page" for you automatically.

Music sharing. Composition.

Hell, you could analyse the notes being played by a simplistic wave form producing instrument to hazard a guess at writing what's being played.

Not to mention, being able to download information and even actual music sheets from the net in case of emergency! Oh man, this is killing me...:D

I'm hoping on a guitar tab creator and/or viewer app. That way I can free myself from sitting at the iMac to practice. There may even already be one, I just can't find one. I'd love to just put it on a music stand sitting on my stool, and like the other poster, if it could automatically change page somehow (voice command?) that would be sweet as a nut.

Actually I'm thinking about developing a music sheet/stand app for the iPad. I created a drum tab to sheet music converter app a few years ago for PCs. I agree that the possibilities would be endless. I'm not sure what would be a better idea, an app for showing & scrolling music sheet and tabs or an app to create and edit traditional music sheet? The latter might be a bit too complex for an indie...

Ok so I have just found an app called Tab Toolkit, and it's awesome.

This is exactly what I had in mind for using my iPad for, hopefully with it being updated to make use of the screen size.

I could put my iPad on a music stand with this app running instead of sitting in front of my iMac, bashing the guitar on my desk every 10 seconds.

Just a heads up if anyone was looking for something like it.

Realtime Sheet Music Application

Love the idea of not having to remember the chords/lyrics to hundreds of songs while doing live gigs.

V1 - Basic
1) Way to enter song list for each set (ability to name set)
2) List Songs in each set in order you want them played
3) Enter song title/artist and length for each song (establishes scrolling speed)
4) Link to song file itself (PDF, Text, etc.)
5) Scrolling program then slowly advances the chords/lyrics as a given backing track plays (or not...if you don't accompanying music)
6) All songs in a "set" play automatically unless the performer pushes the "pause" button.
7) Normal tape transport controls at bottom of GUI
8) Button to switch from Set List view to Song Scroll window

Options for V2
1) Have way to link song to actual music backing track so the two "start" at the same time
2) Have way to paste lyrics/chords directly into App and then identify "order" of a given line of text with a given line of text being able to repeat multiple times (prevents unnecessary repeat entries of choruses/repeated verses, etc.)....could result in a new format "iPad Sheet Music"
3) Button to slow or speed up scrolling realtime

HW option - Mic Stand iPad "holder" (else just use a sturdy music stand)

Of course one of the major questions is the format of the file being scrolled. The good thing about simply using the iPads "built in Apps" to display various types of "text" format is that the scroller App wouldn't care....it just moves the right hand scroll bar down over Time X to Time Y. Entering the chords/words into the App would be a lot more work but ultimately would be a better way to go if the App were to evolve to be more integrated with the music.

I have $$$$.......just waiting for someone to implement just a basic version of the above.

:D

LOVE tabtoolkit though for me it's a perfect example of why the iPad will rule the world: it simply needs more screen real estate. It will transform the app and therefore the user experience.

Love the idea of an iPad music stand guys. Dont forget to allow a secure way to rotate the iPad on the stand. And it has to be stable enough to withstand screen gestures (my old music stands are really tippy!)

This is just another great example of how "real" applications will transform the iPad and make it a viable alternative to "real" computers for so many people.

As it is I'm going all iPad all the time from Day 1. A year from now is going to be a pretty place.

iPad as an instrument

People are going to be using this thing to create music, live. The iPhone/touch can do this somewhat already. The iPad takes it to another level. You're not limited to some static musical instrument interface anymore (i.e. keyboard, fingerholes, strings), it can be anything you want it to be. With the multi touch, you can play chords, etc. With the computing power, you can play loops, invent new sounds, whatever...

That said, one limitation is that watching someone play an iPad won't really look right... but maybe our ideas of what musicians do will catch up with it?

I imagine a midi interface of some sort would be cool.

There's some very cool apps already that I imagine ill work fine on the larger pad.

But I never ran across anything that would send 'midi out/in' so you could use the Iphone as a control surface ,etc.

So if any developers a reading

HELP!!!!! :D
