must also add....no data plan. i'll have the phone in airplane mode with wireless on. so that apps need to work with out data connection.

hopefully there is a lot of free wireless there.

Having lived in London in the past, and as a now frequent traveler to london, here are the two apps you should have:

1) London A-Z
2) London City Tube app

Both are by Visual IT.

Pre-iphone days, I used to carry a mini London A-Z around with me and that book is indispensable in London, especially if you don't want to get hit with a huge data charge for using google maps over there.

there wont be that much free wifi, most of it you have to pay an hourly/daily rate. You know how it is ;) Maybe if you have WiFi in your hotel and then you just use google maps/a tube map you will be fine.

looking at buying a month of "the cloud" http://thecloud.net/

they have access plans from 3.99 (iphone), 6.99 and 9.99 for multi device.

maybe get the 3.99 and figure out how to tether on os 3.1....

seems like they have a lot of hot spots.

Mini London A-Z is completely off-line.

Tube Deluxe can work in offline mode and will be invaluable in navigating between stations (it has a route planner). The network option is used for informing you of any delays and departure times. That being said, you'll find that the tube services run very frequently (typically trains go through stations every five minutes or so).

Tube Deluxe (by Malcolm Barclay) is really great!!
It even has push notifications if (selected) lines are closed/delayed.
