I feel that i am not taking full advantage of the simplicity apps on my mac can add to my life. What are some of your "Must Have" apps that make your mac awesome?

I watch youtube videos about the top 10 and all but what are y'all using?

  1. Better Touch Tool (best and must have imo)
  2. Mem Clean
  3. Little Snitch
  4. Coconut Battery
  5. Google Drive/Dropbox
  6. gfxcard status
  7. PIA
  8. Parallels
  9. Skitch

1. Final Cut Pro X - if you are into video editing, absolutely get this!
2. Free Download Manager - the absolute best alternative for windows IDM that downloads almost everything from everywhere.
3. Hyperdock - makes hovering a mouse over an app show all open windows Windows-style (sorry for the pun :D ) and a couple of other cool things, but basically makes working with multiple windows on MacOS not an absolutely miserable experience.
4. Magnet - allows you to easily move windows around the screen, make split view, etc (something that windows does for free, come on, Cook!)
5. Paragon NTFS for MAC - allows you to connect ALL external drives to your mac without all the "unsupported format" ********
6. Go for Gmail - allows you to view gmail from an app, VERY handy!
7. Screenflow - the basic and the best screen recording software
8. FreeChat + FreeChat for Facebook Messenger - allows to you to have whatsapp and facebook messenger chats as Apps, very nice!
9. Patina - a replacement for microsoft paint, I think it's the best one.
10. Amphetamine - stops your Mac from falling asleep and allows you to finetune sleep times etc.

This question gets asked quite often. What are you using your Mac for? Photography, video editing, writing, etc.?

Video work: FCPX, iMovie, Camtasia, Handbrake/VLC
Audio: Audacity and Audition
Still use and like MS Office
Web, including email: Safari (for now - this rotates every year or so)
1Password (we'll see how long this lasts)
Misc: Amphetamine, Disk Inventory X, Dropbox/Google Drive, Fusion Win7, for those things not Mac

Yes, I saw your thread but didn't know how to help. I only use Hazel for lighthearted housekeeping. It regularly cleans up various folders (e.g. downloads, screen shots, camera uploads), it maintains my pdf research library (automatically copying anything I import into Bookends to a separate folder, so I can keep one copy of each file without annotation), it finds and removes associated system files when I delete an app, etc.

All good I think I figured it out. I had to create a nested folder rule. Not really intuitive but it seems to be working now

Not to thread jack to much, but what is your work flow with "bookends"? This is the first I have heard of this program and it looks interesting.

Sorry about the delay, only saw this now.

I use it as an alternative to EndNote. It organises all my pdf research literature (currently more than 3000 articles/ books/ book chapters) and organises them based on tags (and, to a lesser extent, labels). Since you can assign multiple tags to an item, it makes it very easy to retrieve relevant literature for a writing project. The iPad version lets me read and mark up literature (highlights, comments, etc.). I also use it to generate bibliographies. It's a solid tool that's very customisable and the developers are very helpful. If you're doing research, I warmly recommend it.
