iPad mini Muting IPad Mini 4

I am having trouble muting sound on my IPad Mini 4. I turn the sound down but still hear mail sounds when receiving email. Real distracting in church. On the IPad Mini 2 one could mute sound.

They removed the mute button on the iPad mini 4. You can mute your t by sliding up from the bottom, then sliding up again (iOS 11). On this screen there are options, including one to mute the iPad.
