Hey everyone. My 11.6" just arrived in the mail, here's a few of my very first impressions:

It's just as shockingly thin as everyone else tells you that it is. I just can't figure out how they fit a Macbook with a keyboard, and a screen into this thing.

It's NOT too small, at all. At least not for my needs. After reading some of the threads about users thinking it was too small, I was a little concerned. That went away as soon as I opened it up. I think it's the perfect size.

One thing that I've noticed through using it, the trackpad doesn't seem to be as smooth as the trackpad on the other Macbook models. This trackpad is also not level with the frame, it's sunken in a tiny bit. Kind of strange. It doesn't make a big difference, but it is noticeably a different feel to me.

Here are my unboxing photos: http://gallery.me.com/dannybligh#100215&bgcolor=black&view=grid

I also added some photos for size comparison. In order: 15" Macbook Pro, 13" Macbook, 11.6" Macbook Air, iPad, iPhone 4.

EDIT: Uploaded the pictures to my MobileMe gallery.

Looks incredibly sexy. I really want one. So glad they kept the silver border instead of whacking a black one on.

BTW - try make the whole laptop in focus than trying to give it some sort of artistic touch! I want to see it in as much detail as possible, not have blurred bits for coolness.

"Blurred bits for coolness"...LOL. Thanks for the critique professor. That's what you get when you shoot with a Nikon D700 and a 1.4 50mm lens.

One more note now that I've used it for a little bit. The trackpad doesn't seem to be as smooth feeling as the rest of the Macbook line. It's actually sunken in a little bit and doesn't seem to track as easily. Kind of strange. Still completely usable - just an observation. I'll be curious to see if this becomes a big issue for some users.

I like the photos!! Also liked how you compared the sizes as well. I was debating a few months ago if I should get the Ipad but it seems like the new MBA is much bigger. Also with a keyboard and such I am glad I waited!! Let us know what you think after you have everything installed.

Nice pics and congrats. Although a bit on the bragging side showing ALL of your Apple products when you only stated it was just the 11.6" Air photos.;)

Haha. Not bragging - just trying to show size for scale. And those aren't all MY products...The 13" Macbook is my wife"s..And I think I grabbed her iPad for the shot. ;)

Ha ha, thanks for the clarification. I was getting jealous. XD. Nice though, how's the overall heat levels? Also could you check on Youtube and see if plays 1080P videos perfectly. That question has been coming up a lot.

What you mean on the bragging side? he stated in his first post it was for size comparison. I am pleased he did this I can really tell how small the thing is when hes comparing them with the likes of the ipad etc.

Heat seems to be fine so far - although I haven't done much more than Mac Rumors with it yet - after all of the software updates.

I don't know about YouTube but I just played a 1080P trailer from Apple's site. Managed without any issues at all.

Nice. Thanks for the size comparo. Totally off topic but, from what I see, looks like a nice place you got there too––lovin' the exposed brick!

Thanks for posting this. I may get rid of my iPad as I use it less and less due to lack of flash support and get one of these. Congrats!

Thanks for posting these photos! I'm still trying to decide what screen size to get. I like how the new 13.3" has a higher resolution now--from 1280x800 to 1440x900 (which oddly enough is also now higher than the Macbook Pro 13.3).

I made a screen size comparison via the very useful site http://www.tvcalculator.com. I have it comparing the iPad, 11.6-inch MBA , and 13.3-inch MBA.
http://bit.ly/dgYJE0

I'm still not really a fan of 16:9 ratio screen of the 11.6" (and in general). The extra width is not really useful for webpages, and the screen size is already small to begin with.

So I'm curious, what are your thoughts so far on the 11.6" screen, especially compared to your wife's 13.3" Macbook?

Thanks for the pictures and your impressions. I was looking forward to doing more research before buying.

Can anyone tell me if the Apple remote comes with it? You the one that used to come with the first mac book. I've been using PCs (I know don't hate me), but I desperately want to go back to Mac.

No Apple Remote in the box. I don't believe the 11.6" has an infrared receiver but I could be wrong.

So, even if I buy an Apple remote it wouldn't work? :(
Not a deal breaker, but would be nice to have it.

Correct. Apple remotes will not work on the 11.6" Macbook Air. Can't speak for the 13.3". I only have the 11.6".

Or you could turn the lights on and shoot at F/8 or something. No need for such a shallow depth of field.

Regardless, cool pics -- thanks. Anxiously awaiting my CTO 11.6", too.

Thanks. I shoot at 1.4 because I like it. To each his own. I didn't spend $3,500 on a camera to shoot how other people think I should.

Hope you get yours soon! It's a truly impressive little machine. We all know how bad it sucks to wait for the UPS man.

Great pics! If a bit artsy fartsy (lol, just kidding, I don't mean it) I love the mac family photos, love them.

But you could have uploaded pics that were higher than 800x600, or am I missing something?

Anyway, you've convinced me to get the 13", this thing is barely larger than the iPad.

wow.

Where did I say that I didn't enjoy them? I thought they were good, I just wanted to see them larger, but whatever.
