Sorry, I just gotta share and pass this along. And it is not good at all. I am more sad than anything, as I wanted this unit badly.
I finally took the plunge and bought a refurbed 17 glossy Macbook Pro from Apple and it arrived today. I should have taken pictures of this, but I was so furious (and saddened) that I did not do this. Instead, I was in a rush to get back to Fed Ex.

When I opened up the display it was really difficult to open, like something was catching. finally I got it open with a pop, but the display would not remain in the upright position, it would either fall forward or backward. When I looked closer, I noticed that there was a little silver screw in the very lower left corner of the display way far down that was not screwed in, and it gouged the living piss out of the lower bezel/case.

This little screw looks like it only holds the outer frame to the display and would have nothing to do with the loose diplay.

I know that I will be chastized by many for buying refurbished and this is what I get, but I don't see how in the world anyone could let this poor quality out in this condition. I paid over $2500 for this unit, not a $400 refurb from Dell.

Now I am bothered what I will recieve next and what shape it will be in.

At least your $2500 refurb looks nicer than a $400 Dell refurb no?

That's exactly where your money went towards!

Usually, refurbs don't have problems. (At least, any more relative to non-refurbs.) Send it back to Applecare and get a new one.

Generik, why do you find the need to criticize everything Apple-like at the moment. Every single post I read with your name to it has a spiteful comment or something to that effect. You obviously have a problem with the pricing on a Macbook pro but don't you think thats up to the buyer and not you?

Anyway...on to the problem; Apple will take care of it no problem. I've purchased refurb in the past and it's been as good as new! Don't loose faith!

Probably because there are too many Apple apologists everywhere, and it's hard to get an unbiased opinion here.

I'm all for that...but the poor guy did have a problem. I would have thought he could have been sympathetic and not say, "well there you go...spoilt HA!" Plus, this is macrumors - not macbashers.

You get what I mean...!

I actually expected to get bashed worst than I did so no harm done. There are some people who spend all their free time just trolling for an argument or to hurt others, it's just in their blood.

That said, I have sent the unit back and requested a 100% refund. Those iMacs have caught my eye! That big one for sure omg that is one nice unit! I wished I could find a deal on a Macbook Pro 15" but I dont have the privilages to post in marketplace yet but that iMac oh man theres that credit card burning :)

Very easy to make a decision. Need portability? Buy another MBP. Don't or don't want portability? Get an Imac :)

This could have happened to a new computer. It dosen't seem that the defect is because it is a refurb.

Might have been broken hinge, could have been dropped in transit.

Oh well, doesn't matter though, you should be getting a new one soon, right?

I am truly sorry to hear that your refurb arrived in less than pristine condition.

It really is quite unusual.

No excuse and you have every right to be seriously disappointed ++++++

Fortunately, it's under warranty and you will get another one.

I met a guy the other day who paid $90,000 for his Porche.

It broke down in rush hour traffic on the way home.

Guess it's hard to find good help these days.
