Hey guys, I recently picked up a 2008 3,1 mac pro with a gtx 770 24GB of ram and dual quad-core Xeon at 2.8gz.
it came with macOS 10.9 installed and I want to put windows on there, so I made a bootable windows disk and selected the DVD as the startup disk in system preferences, the windows 10 1709 install shows an error of "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition" which is unfortunate and I decided I just wanted to use macOS, I am sure I didn't touch the macOS drive and also unplugged is after the second try and now my system only boots from a DVD, I can't reset NVRAM, can't hold option when booting up to get the mac boot loader, it seems that I cannot do any commands when it is booting up, I am stuck, really confused and will take any help I can. Thanks

Plug an usb keyboard, best of Apple, directly to a native USB port and hold

Alt-cmd-p-r

Keep holding, for about 3 minutes all those keys together until thr box chimes 4 times.

After that it should load the first OS it finds.

Guess your gpu has no Bootscreen?

yep, you are correct after some further research I have found that indeed the gtx 770 has no boot screen and also won't show the bootloader when holding option/alt which is unfortunate, I did indeed do a PRAM reset but it only worked when I took out the GPU as well, no clue why but yeah and now back in macOS thankfully.

So my last few questions are: if mac bootloader won't appear, will a 3rd party one will, I have tried installing rEFInd but I am having zero hope with that right now, not sure why. And once I get windows installed is there any certain drives I need in there?

Thanks!

You can follow the MyBootMgr link in my signature to get a 3rd party bootscreen via RefindPlus and OpenCore. This should work for a GTX 770. RefindPlus is an enhanced variant of rEFInd. The page also includes instructions for installing Windows 10.

I got windows running by itself and I’ll check out what you said now thanks
