My 24" iMac is awesome

hey guys just wanna say my apple imac is wicked. Sooooo much better than a pc life is good

I just picked mine up last night and I couldn't be happier...it looks absolutely freakin' fantastic! The display is phenomenal --- there was another thread on this forum that had me worried. It is lightning fast -- I picked up Quake 4 with it and was playing at fairly high resolution without a hiccup. It is absolutely silent in operation. It is very big but doesn't feel "too" big...if you know what I mean...it fits on the desk...I don't feel like I'm sitting too close to the screen or anything like that. The display is amazingly bright...I had to turn it all the way down to play Quake in the dark last night.
I took a couple of pictures as I set it up...side by side with my 17" G4 iMac. I will post them perhaps this evening.
Buying the 24" iMac was a tough decision for me with weeks of agonizing --- Mac Pro or iMac. I'm pretty sure that I made the right choice...this thing rocks!

I thought my friends 20" G5 was huge but when I saw the 2 foot iMac I was amazed. Too bad I could only afford a 17".
Bravo! Another one! I just switched and got a 24"er too. I love it, and I KNOW you will. We're going to lead much easier lives, you and I.
I´ve had mine since it came out: I´m more than pleased with it. I just commented on this in another thread yesterday.
I have out it to the test recently, using FCP 5.1 og CS2 and it does perform very well indeed

What made you finally decide on the iMac vs. Mac Pro? I'm struggling with the same decision. I'm using Aperture and it just seems too slow on my iMac 20" G5. Have two GB of RAM on the G5. I know the 24" goes to 3 GB, but not sure that's enough. I think a Mac Pro with 4 GB or higher would be better.
Interested in learning what you mostly use the iMac for and what tipped your decision toward it.

You think CS2 runs fast on Intel Macs? What are you smoking?
Many professionals are waiting to upgrade from PPC until CS3 comes out because CS2 runs SO SLOW.
I disagree; it runs fine. My gf uses photoshop, illustrator, and indesign on a core duo imac with 2 GB of RAM and although the apps are slow to start, they run very well after that. Maybe it would be different if she were working with 100 MB photoshop files, but for her work it's very smooth.

I'd suggest a Mac Pro over the iMac for any Pro users, hence the name, not least because of the upgradeability. For home users, getting the 24" high quality monitor included in the price of the computer is fantastic. I looked at the Pro, but adding the cost of a decent monitor would have pushed me beyond what I'm comfortable paying for a computer.

If you think it runs fast on a core duo iMac I am doubting you have even seen CS2 at it's full potential.
I used to run it on my PC before I switched and it was all around faster. MUCH faster!
Just wait until CS3 comes out and you will know what I mean. There is going to be a world of difference.
I'm so very jealous. I order my "2 footer" on Thursday. I can't wait to finally experience the "computing happiness" I hear from Mac users.
Well...I don't know what to tell you. I downloaded the trial version of aperture just yesterday and used it to do some work on some pics and I found it to be just mind blowingly fast. Now, I'm not sure if this is just due to my frame of reference (G4 iMac) or if it is truly quick. I couldn't imagine editing pictures any quicker than what I was experiencing.
You should drop into an Apple Store...they usually have all of their systems loaded with aperture...you could play with it and see if there is a difference over your system.
My computer has 2gb of ram...the bigger processer...7600 GT video card and it feels very fast to me.

We just got our 24" (w/ 2GB and the 7600GT, plus Final Cut Express for $99!) on Tuesday, and I absolutely love it. I keep feeling like I slipped into the "future".
Now if I can just finish migrating our stuff from Windows so I can get rid of my PC altogether....

welcome to the 24" iMac club. i was deciding between the 20" and the 24", but once i saw them side by side in a real store, I couldn't pass up the extra screen estate.
I have my cash burning a hole in my pocket for one of those 24's. I really can't wait to upgrade my old ibook G3-500. it still works as well as it came out of the box 5+ years ago but it's feeling slow and I'm tired of looking at a 12 inch screen.
The problem is, when I go to the "authorized mac resellers" in Taipei, I can't even fool around with one because there's always somebody using it. Also, apple Taiwan says they can not upgrade any options except for RAM. I might just order a refurb from the US. Still waiting for the news on Hardware upgrades and new OS.
