Something is preventing my imac from going to sleep for the past 2 weeks and i have no idea what it is, i had this imac for 6 years and it always went to sleep just fine after the 1 Hour Sleep setting i set in the Energy Saving panel, would could be preventing it from going to sleep? any help would be appriciated

Are you able to sleep it manually using the Sleep command in the Apple menu or is that also not working? Someone in another thread linked an article which suggested running pmset -g assertions in Terminal to find if something is running in the background and preventing it from going to sleep. I found Internet Sharing had been left on in my Late 2006 iMac (despite no devices connected to take advantage of it) and that was preventing it from going to sleep.

When i manually go to put the iMac into Sleep Mode the screen turns off but i don't hear the harddrives shut off, the computer stays on all night long and does not sleep because when i wake up in the morning for example the computer is rather warm to the touch which means it was on and not sleeping all night and this has been going on for weeks, i am still on El Capitan and have not upgrade to Sierra

So i should run "pmset -g assertions" in Terminal? , can that mess my computer up in any way? i have never run a terminal command in the past, do i need to run any other command to EXIT terminal once i find out what is holding the computer from sleeping by the Text that will appear in terminal? or do i just do Right click and Quit terminal from the Dock?

If you're not going to use it all night, just shut it down.
If that doesn't work, pull the plug!

Yes just run that command in Terminal and it won't hurt anything and there will be nothing you need to undo as a result.

Here is an article that shows how to interpret the output of that command.

When you are done type exit in Terminal then you can quit Terminal in the Dock like you mentioned.

Ok, i ran the Command in Terminal and this is what i got:

Can you please help me find out if theres anything wrong in the log or what is causing my iMac to not go to sleep?

I had a problem like that some time ago. In my case there was something in the print queue, waiting for the printer to become available. I had printed something a few days earlier and had not bothered to finish the job when I ran out of paper. At night I would put the Mac to sleep manually, but it would promptly wake again. Drove me mad for a few days.

You are a life saver thank you so much! i opened the printer menu in the System preferences and indeed there was a document being printed in the queue but i dont even have my printer connected to my iMac for over 2 years now so i have no clue how that happened but i deleted the printer entirely as i dont need a printer and now my iMac goes to sleep again, Thank you very much once again
