iPod My 80GB iPod 5.5 Gen. cuts off songs! (??)

My 80GB iPod 5.5 Gen. cuts off songs! (??) - just like that and not all - but more than less and enough to be totally ruined experience - a song plays to its middle of its duration and immediately goes to the next one, and often it repeats; sometimes 20, 30 sec or a minute before the end of the song - it switches to the next one in any given playlist,,, PLEASE HELP!!!!

I reset my iPod few times hoping tht it might help, but to no avail...
I checked all the settings on the iPod and the iTunes and all is programmed to play songs one by one, no shuffle mode, no overlapping - it should play the ENTIRE SONG BEFORE GOING TO THE NEXT ONE.
But it does not....

Please help - if you have the experience with this problem, or just some ideas...

To check if it's problem with YOUR iPod specifically, you should get a friends' iPod and see if the songs do the same thing. If they play, then something with your iPod is messed up. If they don't, then there is something wrong with the song files.

If not, try to put some songs from a friend on your iPod. If they play then it's a problem with those songs on your iPod.

You hard drive might be damaged.
 
Is this a new phenomenon or did it used to play these same exact songs properly? Are these songs acquired from non-sanctioned sources on the net?
 
my ipod used to do that. all legal songs (ripped or purchased from itunes store.) I had a run of ipods that had hard drive failure. problem is, i don't remember if the song clipping happened with my current ipod (30GB video) or my old problem-ridden (30GB ipod photo) one. sorry, I can't help, other than to say you are not alone!
 
well - thanks - but:
- I don't want to play the songs on the computer; the whole idea of the iPod is to take the music out...
- as I research this issue, i see more and more how I'm not alone with the problem, yet nobody found any solution, or the workarounds that different people found are even contradictory to each other (but still - each worked for someone)...
- this problem is with the iPod; the songs play perfectly on the computer, and they were ripped out on my CDs....

It still skips-jumps to the next song, after random time, but never the full duration.... The only workaround that works for me, and only sometimes, is to delete the album from my iPod(it is always the whole album-all songs from a given album; not just a song), and put the album back - all the same way as before, and without any changes to the songs' "Info", like Options, etc.

The problem is that it helps sometimes, and the other times the songs jump to the next one, which is totally unacceptable... so if someone can - PLEASE HELP!
 
Through itunes look at the songs on you ipod, get info on a problem song, go to the options tab and look at the end time of the song. Now play the song on your ipod and see what time the song stops playing.
 
motulist - thanks for helping to troubleshoot, but it is all correct, i mean - the same duration is displayed in "Get-Info" section in iTunes and on the iPod while playing the problematic songs - you can even see (the blue bar representing the duration of the song - while playing the iPod) the bar and the remaining time, and suddenly - it jumps to the next one, not finishing what was EVEN graphically visible (the remaining time).

btw- out of what I've seen on Apple Forum, it is a new problem, after iTunes went to #8, and even though Apple did some update to the #8, it still did not addressed this problem (if they are even aware of this... I wrote and sent to Apple a "Bug Report" on this one), so I think that Apple's iTunes 8 is the problem (it did not happened to anybody earlier - regardless of a type of the iPod).

...so - I'm really looking for some method to remedy this issue as a workaround that would be somehow solid....but to no avail, as of yet.
 
it happened to me today. that's kind of ironic. hasn't happened in over a year, in my estimation.... then it happens on the day that i mention it on the forum. hmmm....


when the song skipped, i pushed the back button twice (to restart the song that got clipped) and it played through, no problem. irritating.

Sorry, I was unclear. I meant play the songs on your computer as a way to see if the files were good instead of going through the trouble of borrowing a friend's iPod to do the same.

Ok then, it's not the files. Have you tried a restore yet?

Just joined the forum. Hope that this thread is still alive.

Just noticed this song-clipping irritation on my 80Gb iPod. Songs have the last 6-10 secs cut off, jumping to the next track. Funny thing is that it only seems to only occur for songs newly encoded on iTunes 8. My earlier songs encoded previously on iTunes 7 play to the end of each track normally. Could there be some setting on iTunes 8 that I'm setting wrongly? My iTunes has the error-correction box checked.
 
Question: does this problem happen with the flash-memory iPods? I've never seen it happen with my old 2G iPod nano (which I've since sold) or my current 3G iPod nano. :confused:
 
Strange enough, I got home and installed iTunes 8.1.1 and then plugged in my iPod. After it sync-ed again, everything is now fine. I'm not sure if this was one of the bugs that was fixed.
 
I can't believe this. I just ripped a couple of CDs to iTunes and transferred tracks to my iPod and the same thing has happened again (last 5secs skipped) to the newly imported tracks. I don't understand what is wrong with it. I'll go home and force a sync again and see if that solves it.
 
Ok. Re-syncing seems to solve this. So after ripping tracks to iTunes and syncing the iPod, I force it to re-sync it a couple of times before ejecting it. Seems to do the trick. But this is just a workaround as the bug still exists.
