I put on my Airpods Max in the morning and left side sounds louder than the right, this is with Mac Os Monterey. I go to Audio Midi Setup and see that left side has a different volume than the right. I change it and it's fixed. But it keeps happening randomly and this is the third time now. It started after I switched to Monterey, so probably a Monterey bug.

Anyone else experience this with any of their Airpods?

I found a free app called Balance Lock that claims to fix this issue automatically for you. I haven't tried it myself, but I thought someone else might want to give it a shot. Hope this helps!

This started happening this week for me. Balance keeps shifting to the left at startup. I was running Monterey 12.1. Was hoping for a bug fix in Monterey 12.2, but unfortunately not.

Same for me. They were off (lower on the left) since I got them a few weeks ago and today, I looked in Midi Setup and the balance was lower on the left.
Even if you lower both channels independently in Midi Setup to zero, when you increase the volume on the keyboard, they ramp up at different rates.
Have just installed Balance Lock to see how it goes. The app will report each time it has to reset the balance so that should be interesting. Thanks for the tip @Amigaman

Same. Also on the Left side. I thought for a minute my AirPods Max were having a hardware failure or something. Glad I thought to check the balance control!
