Hi People.
I've had a nightmare Monday! After being turned on to Apple products by my long time 'Apple loving' brother, I ordered a top of the range 24" iMac, 2.8GHz, 2Gb Ram and 1TB of Harddrive about a week ago. I had previously bought a Macbook before Xmas and, after a trip to the Apple Store 2 weeks ago, an Apple TV with no problems whatsoever.
I Took delivery of my iMac yesterday (Monday) morning and it looked fantastic when I unboxed it. There was a dent in the box, showing that it had taken a knock somewhere on its travels but thankfully the iMac was not damaged at all inside.
After setting up, I then switch it on to hear a VERY loud clicking/ticking noise coming from the back. I knew instantly something was wrong but in the hope that it might stop I let it warm up but unfortunately it didn't improve. I even installed all the latest updates in the vague hope that it would 'magically' be fixed. Sadly no.
So after calling Apple Customer Services who got me to restart holding down alt+cmd+r+p keys I think (anyone know what thats supposed to do?) they declared defeat and passed me on to the Returns Department.
I now have to wait for the original courier to contact me to arrange collection before they can send me a new model.
I cannot tell you how gutted I am. I waited a whole week for this thing to turn up and now I have to wait another 7-10 days to get another one!
In some ways I wish I'd pick one up at the Apple Store but your choice of harddrive size is limited.
Man, I'm down! Why cant they test these things before they leave the factory? Ok, Ill admit that it could have easily got damaged in transit but im just abit pi$$ed off!
Has anyone else experienced this problem with their new iMac? The clicking noise must have been a problem with the fan or harddrive. I applaud Apple for their quick aftercare service but you'd think they would have been apologetic when I told them a 1700quid computer had arrived on my doorstep defective!
Thoughts, opinions please?
