Baton Rouge, LA
People that did not reserve better check their local Apple store if you had planned to pick up in the store. The store here in Baton Rouge, LA now has first come first serve option on April 3. Glad I have a confirmation; reserved yesterday.

I don't get why this message shows up on my local Apple Store. Didn't they say it was after 3PM when it would become first come first served?

"iPad is available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 9:00 a.m. on April 3. (While supplies last. Wi-Fi only. Wi-Fi + 3G available in late April.)"

Where on the site did you guys go to find that info? I want to know if my local store is now saying the same thing.

Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. My store says the same thing. Looks like I'm camping out.

Now I'm really happy with my decision to go for delivery. My apple store would definetly have a lot go people camping out there 3 days in advance.

I thought about that a little more:

But that might be for the people who did not reserve the iPad, because it does not say that it's first come-first served for the people who reserved. And I think that Apple would stop saying on the reserve page that you can pick it up between 9 and 3 and still be guaranteed it if you really weren't guaranteed it.

I don't think I'll worry about it until I hear something official.

ryan,

Pick your local store and it will show u that it says the first come, first serve start at 9AM and not 3PM.

That only says that they've exhausted their guanteed reserve quota and any new reservations will be fighting for the excess scraps at 9am. See all the stories about the iPhone launch and how there's typically two lines depending on whether you were able to reserve or not.

At least, that's how I would read it. I don't see why someone who reserved first thing and was told they could pick it up as late as 3pm would suddenly be booted because too many people tried to reserve one 2 weeks later.

That still does not prove that people who reserved their iPads will no longer have theirs held until 3pm. It seems more likely that Apple simply is no longer taking reservations for iPads and if you did not reserve one then it is on a first come first serve basis. I hope so at least...

So by having an email confo. that means you have sucessfully reserved your product, correct?

If you follow the link in the email they sent to you it still says

We'll have your iPad ready and waiting for you when you come in to the store. You can pick it up on April 3 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If you'd like to modify your existing reservation, click the Edit Reservation button below.

So I would assume so.

I don't know what part of this is so hard to understand.

You reserved an ipad.

apple has lots of ipads in the store.

not every ipad in the store was reserved.

Therefore, ipads that were not reserved (or were reserved and not picked up by 3pm) are available first come, first serve basis.

Any questions?

3pm is when the reserved iPads can be sold. So if someone does not pick up their iPad, it will be sold after 3pm. The store will have some "general" stock to sell up until they run out. When they run out, they will have to wait until after 3pm to sell any stock that was not picked up.

Not knowing if I really wanted one right away, I considered going the reserve route. Then I figured no, I will wait. It is going to be a fight to get them the first few days or so, so even if I do want one, I can wait a week or two after release and see how things settle out.

I have finally decided I want one, but I am pretty sure I will not be in the first wave. I want to see what fake and made-up problems become the most popular first.

My take is 9am to 3pm is for people that reserved their iPad's and the first come, first serve is after 3pm.

What others are saying is right. The stores have a lot of Pads and not all are reserved. Those Pads are the ones that are first come, first served at 9am.

hmm?....

I reserved my iPad but I still plan on getting to the store early before opening.

The problem I am wondering about. My apple store is in a mall near me and the store hours state 10am-9pm as with all other stores in the mall.

You think they will have a special opening at 9?

Yes, they'll open early.

What does your reservation say? Mine says 9AM. The best way to make sure is to call your local Apple store if 9AM is different than the normal opening time.

I plan on getting to my local store at 6am. I talked to the geniuses there and they said that people were camping out for the iPhone 3gs. So I think if I'm there at 6, I should he good.
