One morning it simply got stuck with a blinking between the white and amber lights on the small LED in the right front, and it just won't start. I have checked all cables and connexions. I have no service or warranty left on it; should I throw it away and go back to Tivo, or what?

I'm upset because it failed just days after the warranty expired.

Try the tips already posted. Then, try Apple.

But if both of those fail, the most likely culprit is a hard drive failure. I've ordered several replacements on ebay (including 320gb versions) and found it pretty easy to replace it myself. In the Apple store, they told me it would be cheaper to just buy a new one rather than have them swap a 40gb drive.

It seems to work better than ever before now (the 320gb drive is faster than the stock drives).

Thanks, guys.

I did unplug it of course, to no avail. I agree it might be the HD. I'll look into that.

Happy new year!
