My AppleTV wishlist

Just a thought. I would buy an AppleTV if it did more than just stream content from a computer to a TV. AppleTV should:

1. Hook up digital cable or regular cable to it so you can watch regular TV through AppleTV. Kinda like a tuner.

2. Stream cable TV from AppleTV to your Mac. I would love to have regular TV in a small window on my mac so I don't always miss the news!

3. Stream TV listings from the internet (through a mac maybe).

Now I don't know if any of this is possible but if it did these things I would get one.
 
I believe one of the USB dongles out there will provide TV to your Mac as well as TV listings (although you could always use Yahoo!TV for that...). If the AppleTV were to integrate a tuner, the remote would have to be far more complex, and I doubt that Apple would want to do that. The AppleTV is meant to be a very easy to use device.
 
WHAT! I can have regular cable TV on my mac!?!?! I'm going to get one right now! >.<
 
My wishlist

The cablecard option I can take or leave. Here is my wishlist:

1. Internet radio is by far my number one wish. If the ATV is supposed to bring iTunes to your TV, this is one area where it is lacking.

2. The ability to stream other content besides just iTunes and YouTube content. For instance, I would LOVE to be able to watch sporting events from Yahoo sports.

3. True surround sound. I think this goes without saying.

4. Adding the little things that you can already do in iTunes like search, on-the-go playlists, party shuffle, ratings, etc.

I could probably think of couple of other things but nothing's coming to mind. The ATV is already a pretty good device. I'm not into making the device a PVR, Blue-Ray player or anything like that. I already have these devices and they will frankly be better than anything else Apple would offer. In sum, Apple just needs to bring all the relevant features over from iTunes to the ATV in addition to surround. Rentals and higher def content would be nice, but then this is not a fault with the ATV.
 
video shuffle

i want video shuffle for my music videos.............i would just like to go to my apple tv music, select music videos playlist, play all and.......boom apple tv will play all my music videos in a raw.........that's my wish apple, please make it true.....
 
The highest wish on my list, is something very basic:

Video playlists!

When you have a couple of hundred or more movies the long list of movies is unusable. I want it split by Genre, New Releases, Favourite etc.

personally, i don't like the blackbars quicktime, and the apple tv put around the TV when you play 4:3 content, ideally i'd like the option to stretch this video to fullscreen.
 
i just had a really cool idea. was looking at the new keyboards and thought it would be cool to have bluetooth on the appleTV so the new bt keyboard could be used with it. that would imply some sort of other applications with the appleTV that would make more use of a keyboard. but it would make searching YouTube a lot easier. maybe it would also work with buying songs directly to the appleTV.
 
looping

the apple TV would be a brilliant solution for clients wanting products highlighted on a HD screen, but sadly the little box lacks a simple feature as continues looping with 1 video. :(
 
I would love for them to open the USB port so you can attach external storage. Jeez, even my cable box has external connectivity.

A better remote, maybe an option to jump back to the main menu without having to back out of each sub-menu.
 
Here is my wishlist:

1) Full HD pictures.

It is great to see our pictures on the screen but c'mon why only a 720 up-res to 1080 ?

2) Build in DVD, HD-DVD or Bluray drive as CTO or a third option.

3) Build in Safari/Mail that I can control using the bluetooth keyboard and mouse
