Ok, here's my situation, I own 2 ATV2 an Apple Mac, 3 iPads all running thru my net gear wifi.
Up until just a week ago every thing was working perfectly, but now when I try and play a movie on my Atv2 it won't play, it's like it's buffering but nothing will play.

And when I try and AirPlay from my iPad for instance, yesterday it would do the same thing, just buffering. And today it says my Apple tv is not authorized to play this content. Which is rubbish because I have done it previously with no problems:confused:

Someone please help:(

Have you tried rebooting your router?

This ^ & reboot your atv

When you reboot your router do you need to do something else other than just unplugging it for a couple of minutes?

And I have also tried resetting my atv and re configuring it.

I have a feeling it's something to do with my router and maybe some settings on my Mac? Because I have 2 atvs and it's the same on both, neither will play.

Ok, just to update my dilemma

I finally got it to work

What I did was
:unplug my router, phone line and all for 5-10 minutes
:shut down my Mac and unplugged it at the same time

I had a similar problem the other day. I came home and my AppleTV's wouldn't see the library. I was confused, rebooted AppleTV's same thing. Found out that my server (ATV1 running iTunes) had a message "This device is not authorized to play this content." Now I NEVER play content on that device, just streaming it; never had a problem before. But now it wants me to authorize that machine. I did and everything is okdokey; but did Apple add some additional authentication checks recently?

I would have thought that the server, just serving the data wouldn't need to be authorized. . . but obviously that appears to be wrong.

My imported movies play perfectly fine via AirPlay but my movies purchased through iTunes do not play via AirPlay. I'm in Canada and the "Purchased Movies" option doesn't appear on the AppleTV menus due to licensing constraints. But playing movies that I bought from my Mac to my AppleTV doesn't work?? Way to encourage piracy Apple! This used to work, it doesn't now.
