MP 1,1-5,1 My beloved Macpro 5,1 problems

Hello everyone and sorry for my English, I wanted to get an opinion from the Community about my beloved Macpro that suddenly stopped working tonight.
Turns on, chimes, apple on screen, progress bar stops at zero, no response, not even caps lock, nothing.
Tried everything, removed everything added over the years one piece at a time and reverted to the original configuration completely, same behavior.
Tried the ram one by one, no change; finally I removed cpu 2 from slot B and High Sierra booted normally.
I alternated cpus: no boot. I put cpu 2 alone in slot A: no boot.
Do you think that cpu 2 is gone or could it be another problem? Is there any other test I could do that maybe I haven't done?

You can always think about buying a single CPU tray for it and use the working CPU if it is an upgraded one.

SMC Versions must match. If it's a real 5.1 (SMC Version ends with f11) the CPU Sockets of the dual CPU Tray have a lever on it then you need a 5.1 Board.

No lever on the dual CPU Tray -> it's a 2009 4,1, you need a 4,1 board.

CPUs are pretty cheap for Classic Mac Pros, a pair of X5690s is fairly minimal cost from eBay or Amazon.

I would get another two processors just to have another spare one. If that works fine then you didn't spend the money to get a single CPU tray.

The cheapest X5690 available in the e.u. is 70 Euro a piece atm via eBay.

of course one can order original cpus for test sake, but in some circumstances lower power CPUs work, high power not.

I reassembled the macpro in the 2023 configuration (OC, Monterey, RX570, NVme, USB3, all disks) and with one cpu it works as usual 😀, only the notorious 100% fun speed problem.
I will buy a pair of cpu asap, no need to put it to rest.

And no need to spend money for the top specs CPUs.
X5670 and X5675s are much cooler and stabler, while cost much less than the notorious X5690s.

X5677 is also a good choice if OP doesn't really need 12C 24T.

X5680's were half the cost of the X5690's when I bought mine, and like 3% slower.

No. These CPUs are cheap, and don’t generally break. You were just unlucky.

If another CPU goes, then be concerned.

Maybe the cooling system didnt worked. Too much dust or a misconfigured fan tool.
