I know these threads are getting old, and nobody really wants to hear them, but out of all the issues people have about the iPhone hardware, my biggest complaint is the speaker on the phone sucks. Play anything other then a voice and it sounds like garbage. I know it's primarily there for the speaker phone, but c'mon. I tried to show a friend of mine a video on YouTube and the sound through the speaker was so bad it wasn't even enjoyable.

Sorry to rant, but to me this is one of the bigger design flaws with the phone. I know to some people it may seem trivial, but to me it's a big deal.

I was surprised myself how bad the speaker was as well.

It's very low and the person on the other line can barely hear me.

But, it is doable....

the volume on the speaker is horrendous. i hope it can be maximized on a software update .. cause speaker phone is essentially useless.

I agree and have posted it several times but I am right there with you. Speaker phone sucks and the earpiece and overall volume is my biggest gripe. I hope it's fixable in an update.

I will concur. Playing music or youtube through it and it is not very good quality at all.

the speakerphone is pretty quiet. the first time i used it, i wasn't even sure the speakerphone was really on. :(

Wow, I wholeheartedly disagree. The speaker on the iPhone is actually one of my favorite parts and one reason why I'll probably never use my iPod again. I often listen to music through the speaker while I'm surfing on the iPhone. (I'm doing it now even). I'm quite impressed with the volume for music.

I will say that for the "speaker phone" part the mic is a little weak. Fortunately, I've never liked using speakers on phones calls anyway.

i stopped listening to music and browsing the internet simultaneously due to constant crashing. :(

Yeah. If Safari isn't crashing, the music player is. This I'm okay with since I'm sure optimizations will come to both pieces of software to make them run better together.

The reason I have a big issue with the speaker is its hardware so it'll never get better regardless of how many updates they release. :/

Siurpeeman, I actually had that same problem and have read about other people having that problem. Since I did a reset, though, the problem has disappeared.
