I have the 13" Macbook Air (2010), 4GB/1.86GHz model and my start up time use to be 14-15 seconds...today its 25-26 seconds, about 10 seconds longer. Any idea as to why? My shutdown time is normal and has not changed.

Apple's way of hinting that you upgrade to Lion ;)

Actually, we need more data. Did you recently install anything that'll auto-boot on startup?

I can't remember, but I think I did update a few days ago. No application installations though for sure.

Flash problem

MacBook-Air seems very sensitive to Flash which auto-boot on start-up. I had the same problem and installed Click-For-Flash. Start-up time shortened and battery life almost doubled.

Sometimes updates can slow boot times for a few reboots. Also, you didn't do a secure erase, did you? That can also slow boot times. If you did the latter, do a search for the TRIM Support Enabler as that might help you restore your boot times.

There was a problem with iTunes updates some time ago which made Air boot slower...

Try this

open terminal and type (cut and paste the commands below):

sudo chown root:admin /
sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
sudo kextcache -system-caches

*enter password after 1st command

Weird, it's back down to normal boot time of 14-15 seconds. All I did was shut it down and power it up a few times, then used my MBA as normal for a few hours, tried again and it went booted up pretty fast again.

what does this do?

I think I fixed mine - I loaded clamXAV and it was set to look for updates upon startup..that took a few secs...now about 17 secs...
