iCloud My contact card: picture resets daily

Hey All,

Running into an issue here im not quite sure how to narrow down yet. Trying a few things but currently no luck. I used to own a mac/ipad/iphone at once and this was fine. over the last few years ive been on an iphone/ipad only and its been fine. Just recently i picked up a new mac, and now this issue popped up:

Situation: I am logged into my icloud account across all devices. I have had my contact card set for years, with my picture assigned to it for years without issue. Now on a daily basis my contact card picture resets back to not having one. The information on my card stays, but the picture resets.

What I believe is happening / may be of note. I am away from my mac at the moment but will confirm when home, but i believe when i open system preference on my mac, at the top of the screen where it says my icloud account logged in. I believe to the left of that my profit picture remains. Like it was assigned to my icloud account separate from the my contact card. However when i go to address book on any device, or settings on iphone/ipad, my picture is gone. Those icloud account log-ins appear to be linked to my contact card. But the login on my mac does not appear to be linked for sake of profile picture. Maybe a disconnect there resulting in my contact card picture erasing?


UPDATE:
It is not just my contact card/icloud picture. It is ANY contact that i change their contact image. new or old. The updated contact info stays, but the picture deletes back to nothing over night. If i update a contact now on any device, it shows up across all devices and icloud.com instantly as it should. the next day, GONE.

same. it pushes it across devices except the iCloud field specifically on my Mac.

Ive logged out of iCloud on my Mac, set picture on iCloud on my phone. and then logged back into Mac. Now everything on my Mac is in sync (iCloud picture, account login, contact card). so hoping tomorrow it doesn't reset again O_O

Have you ever connected that iCloud account to any third-party apps or services?

Since the issue arose after you got a Mac I'd suggest testing a new User Account on that Mac. For the test you'll have to sync to iCloud in the new account and NOT log into the original account…leave the new account running for long enough to see if the image problem still exists.

yeah i tried that as well, no luck. Also the more i dig the more it seems it may be driven by issue within Mac OS, and is why it just started with me (based on this chat link https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254036577?page=1)

frustrating as hell.

Well…within macOS and iCloud. You can test another contact syncing service to see if the problem arises. My contacts sync with Google and I've not seen the issue.

yeah thats a solid idea. Do you lose any functionality with using google contacts as the source? Or is it all the same fields/profile pictures and such across all devices?

I'm not aware of any differences.

I use Google for contacts and calendars but my email is an Office 365 account. The only downside is that in the web versions of the accounts there's no coordination. That hasn't bothered me in the many years I've done it this way.
