My contact list has now gone!

Over the past week my contact list on my phone has gone and i thought it would reappear by itself.

There are lots of random and nonsense contacts appearing and I cant block them : (

My phone is linked to my college email account if that's of any use.

I'd appreciate info on what i need to do to get my contacts correctly back and appearing, without losing my data (pics and vida).

Should I turn syncing off?

You say no one else but systems admin would. A simple update or clear up there end could wipe everything. You should sync to iCloud or google and just that!

Should I reset my phone before re syncing it to icloud only?
