Ever since iOS 16, the custom labels on my contacts card, as well as a few others in my address book, keep reverting to the generic labels. (E.g, my “home” address and “work” address just go back to being labeled “address.” Mobile and work labels for phone just say “phone.”)

I’ll fix them, and a day or two later they revert to the generic labels. Anyone else experiencing this?

On a related note, I have had the worst battery drain ever and looking at battery usage showed that over a 10 day period, contacts are up 35% of my battery but only 3 minutes of on-screen time. I’m convinced some bug in contacts was killing my battery. I did a DFU restore and set the phone up as new yesterday and so far the battery seems better, but my contact card is still reverting to generic labels.

Anyone else ever experience something like this?

Wow and I thought I was the only one having the resetting contact label issue. I was about to post on it when I saw your post. This has happened to me twice now on iOS 16. I also use custom labels and they’re gone.

Have you checked if iCloud is making the change. Try switching off iCloud after you change them to what you want, or make the change in iCloud.

Well I had them all set up for a quite a while and then one day a few months ago all were reset. I fixed some of the labels along with recreating some of the custom labels a month or two ago and they persisted across devices. Today I noticed the custom labels were gone and all contact labels reset to “phone” across all my contacts.

Are you using any type of contact manager other than iPhone Contacts?

Nope. And ohn every device using iCloud contacts I've gone to see who has access to contacts, disabled everything, and it still happens. It may look good for a day or two, then everything defaults back to "phone" and "address" and no longer mobile, home, work, etc.

In addition to the labels messing up, I'm also finding that some data is getting truncated in the cards. For example, in the address field, some will say "United Sta" and others will show "United States," which is very weird because that field is a drop-down!

@Spaceboy88 Have you figured out a fix for this? I'm having the same issue.
Nope. I even was put in touch with an iCloud specialist who kinda just fell off the radar. It has happened a lot less since the more recent iOS updates and I thought it was solved but it happened again a couple weeks ago and yet again this past weekend. It's maddening.

I have the exact problem .... both Contacts labels reverting to default (a big pain to re-label all phone numbers, addresses, etc) AND in my notes where I have a lot of important information, it truncates it, erasing a bunch of key data too. All of my modern devices have the latest software updates, though I have a couple legacy devices that no longer take new updates, though when I fix back my contacts they sync up exactly the same for a period of time, then I notice a day or two or three later everything on all devices is reset, and the notes entries are again truncated in the exact same spot.
